Lab Hours 4/7/10

Thursday 3/25 before break I spent three hours working in the museum on group 4's wall. I needed some more practice mounting and cutting the panels. Over Spring Break I got caught up on reading, Friday I spent two hours, Sunday about an hour and yesterday hour and a half, now I am caught up on reading. I really like the Shanks book I have found info that I can use for my basket report. I am excited for today's opening, we have all worked hard.

Lab Hours or lack there of

This week has been crazy I have had midterms in my 3 other classes, so I have neglected this class. I am behind on the reading but I will get caught up over Spring Break. I did read everyone's blogs that only took 30 minutes. I am going to try to help out tomorrow in the museum since Bishop is furloughed and midterms will be over, last one tonight!

Lab Hours St. Pattys Day

This week was a good week, group 4 worked together well to help each other with our portion of the exhibit. I worked for about an hour on Thursday night on my portion but I was getting confused fast. We met as a group on Friday in the museum workroom I was there for 2 hours I finished my research then and spent an hour on Saturday finishing my portion. My portion was answering "What is consultation?", list of CA federally recognized tribes, "What is a federally recognized tribe?", an example of a cap that has gone through consultation and what happens when there are competing claims. I spent about 30 minutes this weekend reviewing and proof reading my groups portions. And about another 30 minutes reading blogs this morning. Because I have been studying for midterms I am behind in reading hopefully I will get caught up this week. I am excited that group 2 is using one of my items the mini Pomo baskets. And I am looking forward to the Ralph Shanks Lecture today.

Lab hours week of 3/3-3/10

This week I can say I put in some work for this class and I finally have a clear understanding of what is going on. On Thursday I met with my group and we discussed what we wanted to do. We are dealing with NAGPRA and it is really helpful that 3 of us took Dr. Yu's CRM class last semester and we have a lot of info already. All together I think we were together for about 3 hours in the library. On Sunday Catherine and I went to the State Indian Museum I have never been, it was amazing there was so much to look at. Al the docent was great he gave us a lot of info. He explained to us that some of the baskets were warped or bending, loosing their form because their cases were not hydrated I had no idea that could affect them so much. There was another basket that wasn't finished and it was interesting to see the material that way. I liked the mini baskets the most and I also enjoyed seeing other Pomo and Hupa baskets because my baskets are from those tribes. We were there for about an hour. Our group met with Dr. C today in the museum to submit our ideas for her approval I was late and I think the meeting was 30-45 minutes long. We found out we wanted to do too much and now we have a clearer idea of what is expected of us. I really like my group we work well together, we all know our part and I know no one will be a slacker. My portion will be answering the question "What is consultation?" and giving a example using Petras' widow cap and a work cap going through the process. I will also explain the differences between federally recognized tribes and non federally recognized tribes. I am excited for the exhibit and to hear on Wednesday what the other groups have come up with. On Sunday I spent and hour on the reading I will get caught up tonight or tomorrow. I also spent about 30 minutes this week reading everyone's blogs.

3/3/10

Last Wednesday night I spent 2 hours reading everyone's blogs, before I pretty much just read a couple entries and Dr. Castaneda's . I now have a better understanding of what is going on. After reading Michelle's blog I understood why everyone else was posting what item to put on the postcard. Holly, Michelle, Laura, Stacey and Carrie had very informative blogs that were helpful. I do agree with Brian that we should meet outside of class, we are just weeks away from the opening. I am eager to find out what happened with the trip to Sloughhouse. I spent 2 hours yesterday with Nessa working on the Deed of Gift assignment and an hour last night and this morning completing the assignment. Next week I hope to start research on my items and I am going to plan to read everyone's blogs more often.

Post for 2/24/10

Last Thursday I got to see my third item the Alaskan basket. I worked on my blog for about an hour this week putting up the pictures of my artifacts. I have been trying to figure out how to move things around on my blog so everything is not on the left side but I haven't figured it out yet. I spent about 3 hours getting caught up on reading to prepare for the quiz I don't know if our readings count for lab hours or not but that the bulk of what I did this week. I had trouble downloading the Cotton file from Sac CT I kept getting errors but I went to school and was download it and email it to myself and I spent an 45 minutes reading over it. I didn't do much this week.

Lab hours

Im not sure what we are suppossed to do for our hours, but I spent approx 2 hours last week working on my blog, 3 hours on Friday looking at other museum webpages, looking into the Smithsonian internships and about another hour on Sunday looking at websites. This is my research so far. My artifacts are the mini baskets and another small basket, I have not seen the Alaskan one yet.
